New 88 Cafe, tucked within Pelita Commercial Centre in Miri, fits right into the local kopitiam scene with its straightforward, no-frills vibe. This isn't the place for fancy seating or specialty brews—it’s all about quick, affordable comfort food that feels familiar to regulars starting their mornings or grabbing a simple lunch.

The atmosphere here leans heavily on the classic hawker center energy. The space is practical rather than cozy, drawing a steady stream of locals who appreciate a casual setting to enjoy well-known favourites. You’ll often find people dropping by for a fast kopi or teh tarik alongside plates of wet fried kui tiaw and kolo mee, both prepared with balanced portions of prawn, pork, liver, and vegetables. These dishes carry a homemade touch without leaning into fine dining territory.

New 88 Cafe’s menu reflects local taste well, with highlights like fried kolo mee, mee goreng basah, and the intriguing 红酒粉干蛋, catering to those who enjoy classic Sarawak flavors. While some dishes might come across as a bit inconsistent in seasoning or texture, the variety ensures there’s something approachable for most palates. The Foochow-style fried fen gan is a quieter crowd-pleaser and worth a try for those interested in more niche local hawker fare.

This spot suits early risers and midday diners looking for affordable, homemade-inspired hawker meals without the fuss. It’s especially handy for workers and shoppers in the commercial centre who want a quick bite paired with traditional kopi tiam staples. The café’s modest surroundings underscore its role as a practical neighborhood landmark rather than a destination for lingering.

For visitors curious about Sarawak’s casual street food culture, New 88 Cafe offers a slice of daily life through its simple menu and unpretentious setup. Expect straightforward service amid a steady flow of locals, especially during breakfast and lunch hours when the food’s freshness and familiar flavors come through best.

Satisfactory breakfast of Susu c kosong - pure milk without sugar - and wet fried kui tiaw & kolo Kui tiaw. All yummy! Wet fried kui tiaw was exceptionally delicious with the accompanying spicy belachan. Adequately prawn shrimps, pork, liver & veggies included. Certainly coming back
